The Discount Mirage
A discount is only real if the old price was. For a slice of Migros’s “sale” items, the crossed-out “regular” price was quietly raised in the days before the cut — so the headline saving is measured against a number that was never really charged.

How we catch it
Every product’s price is snapshotted daily across all 39 stores. A discount is flagged only when its “regular” reference has climbed faster than its category’s typical rise — so ordinary inflation can’t trigger it — and the current price isn’t actually a recent low. Every flag is checkable against Migros’s own live API.
Why it may be illegal
Turkey’s advertising rules (Ticari Reklam ve Haksız Ticari Uygulamalar Yönetmeliği) require the “before” price in a sale to be the lowest price charged in the previous 10 days. Inflating the reference to manufacture a bigger discount is exactly what’s prohibited — enforced by the Reklam Kurulu. Source ↗
