№ 01

The Discount Mirage

A discount is only real if the old price was. For a slice of Migros’s “sale” items, the crossed-out “regular” price was quietly raised in the days before the cut — so the headline saving is measured against a number that was never really charged.

How we catch it

Every product’s price is snapshotted daily across all 39 stores. A discount is flagged only when its “regular” reference has climbed faster than its category’s typical rise — so ordinary inflation can’t trigger it — and the current price isn’t actually a recent low. Every flag is checkable against Migros’s own live API.

Risers & Fallers

The biggest price moves all-time — since this ledger began — and, just as telling, how much has not budged at all. The window only grows: every day of scraping deepens the record.
